Squeaky Fromme Attacks Prisoner With a Hammer

SAN FRANCISCO, Mar. 13 — Lynette (Squeaky) Fromme, the Charles Manson cult member convicted of trying to kill former President Gerald R. Ford, attacked a woman inmate in federal prison with a hammer and may face charges in the incident, it was disclosed today.

Miss Fromme is serving a term at the federal women’s prison in Pleasanton for the attempted assassination of Ford in September, 1975.

Prison officials declined to discuss the incident, but it was learned that Miss Fromme is accused of attacking Julienne Busic with a hammer after an argument.

Federal sources said Miss Busic, convicted of air piracy and the bombing death of a New York City police officer in a New York-to-Paris hijacking staged by five Croatian nationalists several years ago, was hit with the hammer last Thursday. There were reported to be several witnesses to the incident.

Miss Busic suffered “a pretty good blow” but is now in good condition, according to the report.

Federal charges are expected to be filed as a result of the incident, sources said. A conviction could add to the prison term of Miss Fromme, who would be eligible for parole in 1985.

Miss Fromme was a follower of Manson, who is serving a prison term for several brutal Los Angeles area murders. Another Manson cult member, Sandra Good, is also imprisoned at the Pleasanton facility for a separate crime. She was not involved in the attack on Miss Busic.

According to authorities, Miss Fromme had access to the hammer because she works in landscaping at the prison.
