Manson Family Pair Pleads Guilty

LONG BEACH, Mar. 3 – Two former Charles Manson “family” members who knifed a Long Beach apartment house owner and his guest pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of robbery and burglary.
Vernon Ray Dean Plumlee and Robert Eugene Russell, both 20 and both Marine Corps deserters, will be sentenced March 23 by Superior Court Judge Beach Vasey.
The two admitted inflicting critical abdominal stab wounds on Robert Rivarola, 19, a visitor from Peru, and less serious cut on Jeffery Hanham, 38, of 3416 E. Second St., in Hanham’s apartment Sept. 26.
Additional charges of attempted murder, car theft and further robbery counts remain to be disposed of.
Plumlee and Russell lived with the Manson family in 1969 at the Spahn Ranch, Chatsworth – Russell being there from July through September, the month of the Tate-LaBianca murders.
