Manson Attorney Sues LA County For Big Fee
Thursday, December 13th, 1973
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13 — Attorney Irving A. Kanarek has filed suit in Superior Court seeking $49,150 for his courtroom representation of convicted murderer Charles Manson in 1969.
Kanarek said in his suit that Los Angeles County owed him the money for time spent “as a public defender” in the unsuccessful defense of Manson at his trial for the murders of Gary Hinman and Donald “Shorty” Shea.
The county has contended that Manson retained Kanarek as a private attorney, but Kanarek claims he served as a court-appointed attorney because Manson was “an indigent.”
