Death Charge Dropped for Manson Girl

LOS ANGELES, Mar. 4 — A murder charge against Charles Manson family member Mary Brunner in connection with the death of Malibu musician, Gary Hinman was dismissed Friday by Superior Judge George M. Dell.

In announcing his decision to drop the homicide count, Dell ruled that Miss Brunner, 27, had “substantially complied with conditions (for immunity) in the…case although she repudiated her testimony in later proceedings.”

Dell granted a writ of habeas corpus filed on Miss Brunner’s behalf by attorney Howard Weitzman, who maintained that she had fulfilled her obligations in the immunity agreement and could not legally be prosecuted for murder.

Although she apparently will not be tried for the July 27, 1969, slaying, she is still scheduled to stand trial on a perjury count stemming from her conflicting testimony at Robert Beausoleil trial in April, 1970.

Beausoleil, 24, was convicted of the Hinman murder. Manson, 37, also was found guilty of the killing in a subsequent, separate trial.
