Susan Atkins Denied Parole

FRONTERA, Calif., Sept. 18 — Former Charles Manson disciple Susan Atkins Laisure, who this month married a self-professed Texas millionaire, has been denied parole for a fourth time.

After a hearing Wednesday, the three-member California Board of Prison Terms denied parole for Mrs Laisure, 33, because her progress at the California Institute for Women has not outweighed her crimes, said board Chairman Ray Brown.

Mrs. Laisure’s lawyer, Robert Moss, presented to the board a recent lie detector test in hopes of convincing them there was some doubt as to the extent of her participation in the 1969 Tate-LaBianca murders.

Mrs. Laisure, who is serving a life sentence, was convicted along with other Manson followers in the slayings of actress Sharon Tate, wealthy market owners Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, and four others.

Professional polygrapher Ted Ponticelli said the lie detector test, reportedly administered Sept. 3, was inconclusive but did indicate that Mrs. Laisure may have told the truth when she denied stabbing Miss Tate and musician Gary Hinman and said she didn’t remember stabbing two of the other victims.
