SAN PEDRO, Feb. 8 – It used to be “me Tarzan, you Jane,” as the idol of millions of movie-goers swung from tree to tree.

Now, it could very well be: “Sophie, watch for that fullback slant off right tackle.”

What used to be Jane in the popular Tarzan series is now Sophie. And, she will be played by a 22-year-old blonde daughter of a Fort MacArthur security officer.

What used to be a rugged Olympic swim star swinging on the vines from treetops in the African jungle is now a linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams.

Sharon Tate, a statuesque blonde and daughter of Maj. Paul Tate of the 47th Artillery Brigade, is the newest heroine of the Tarzan series; while Mike Henry, defensive signal caller for the Rams, is the latest version of Tarzan.

Jane, however, is no more. At least for the time being. Her name has been changed to Sophie for the latest Tarzan film.

The film will be shot on location in Acapulco by Banners Productions. It will be titled “Tarzan in Mexico.”

The photogenic blonde daughter of the Army officer is not new to movie cameras. She has been seen on several major television series as well as in the motion picture theater.

Miss Tate began her movie career in Verona, Italy, a few years ago where her father was assigned as an intelligence officer. This was on the Pat Boone television show being taped there. Then, she next appeared in the feature motion picture “Barabbas” starring Jack Palance.

After returning with her parents from Europe, she began doing television commercials, a
very lucrative type of work for the acting profession. Besides being the heroine in commercial for a cigar company, her face was becoming a familiar sight as “Kelly Kalani” in a wine commercial. Meanwhile, she was eyeing contract offers from four major feature studios.

The major’s daughter finally signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios. Also, she is playing supporting roles on the Beverly Hillbillies on television.

She is studying at the MGM yoke and drama departments in between acting dates for ants and commercials.
