Kasabian Appeals DWI Case Ruling
Wednesday, August 18th, 1982
MERRIMACK, NH, Aug. 18 — Former Manson ‘family’ member Linda Kasabian was found guilty in district court yesterday of driving while intoxicated, second offense, but immediately appealed the case, a court spokeswoman says.
Kasabian, now known as Linda Christian, 33, of 69 Whitney St., Nashua, was arrested by Merrimack police on Daniel Webster Highway in June.
Judge Geoffrey Lynch sentenced her to seven days in the House of Correction, fined her $550 and revoked her license for three years. The jail term and fine were stayed pending the appeal in Hillsborough County Superior Court.
Kasabian’s lawyer, Barry Harkaway, attempted unsuccessfully to have his client’s first conviction suppressed as evidence, saying that she was not properly informed of her rights before she pleaded guilty.
Lynch allowed the 1980 Nashua District Court conviction to stand.
Kasabian pleaded guilty to indecent exposure on July 9 in Laconia District Court for taking off her blouse in front of a crowd in the Weirs Beach section of Laconia during “motorcycle weekend” in June.
Kasabian turned state’s evidence during the trial of Manson and other members of his cult charged with the 1969 murders of actress Sharon Tate and six others.
She claimed at the time that she did not participate in the brutal killings and won immunity for her testimony.
