Manson Case Seeks Office
Friday, December 14th, 1973
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 – Former Deputy District Attorney Vincent T. Bugliosi, who prosecuted the Charles Manson “family” for the Sharon Tate murders, announced yesterday he is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for state-attorney general.
Bugliosi resigned his prosecutor’s post to run for district attorney this year against his boss. He lost.
Meanwhile, Irving Kanarek, Bugliosi’s foe in the Tate trial as defense lawyer for Manson, filed suit against Los Angeles County yesterday for $49,150. Kanarek maintains he was appointed by the court to defend Manson, and so the county owes him his fee. The county says Kanarek was hired privately and so the bill should go to Manson, who is serving life in prison on nine convictions for first degree murder.
