Fromme to Alderson
Sunday, July 3rd, 1977
ALDERSON, WV, Jul. 3 – Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, the Manson cultist accused of trying to gun down former President Gerald Ford, is among a contingent of new inmates being shipped to the Federal Reformatory for Women.
Warden Carson Markley says security is being shored up in time for Miss Fromme’s arrival, expected within a few days.
Traveling with the onetime follower of cult killer Charles Manson will be seven prisoners who allegedly damaged federal property as members of the American Nazi Party.
Eventually, the prison also will house Sara Jane Moore, the Charleston native also convicted of making an attempt on Ford’s life, in a separate instance.
A new maximum security unit is being created, making the Alderson facility the only one of its kinds for women in the federal system.
