Informant Links Three To Sharon Tate Murders

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 – A police informant linked three persons to the Benedict Canyon massacre in which actress Sharon Tate and four others were murdered and gave narcotics as the motive for the slaughter, it was reported Saturday.

The informant said Polish playboy Voityck Frokowsky, 37, one of the victims, was the principal target and was executed because of his deep involvement with narcotics distributors, according to a newspaper (The Los Angeles Times).

Police refused to either confirm or deny the story and would say only that they had “no comment” on it.

According to the story, the informant, who said he feared for his life, gave police the names of at least three persons including one he believes was actively involved in the Aug. 9 slayings at Miss Tate’s Canyon estate.

The informant, a Polish immigrant like Frokowsky and a close friend of the victim, said he had been invited to the party at the estate the night of the murders but worked late into the night and did not go.

In addition to Miss Tate and Frokowsky, Jay Sebring, a men’s hair stylist; coffee heiress Abigail Folger and Steven Parent, a friend of the estate’s caretaker, William Garretson.

Frokowsky, a Polish film producer, was a close friend of Miss Tate’s husband, Roman Polanski, who directed the film “Rosemary’s Baby.”

The informant told police he is certain the killer or killers know that he can identify them and he has been under constant police guard since he first talked to officers last Sunday, the newspaper said.

The informant told officers that Frokowsky was a cocaine user and that Miss Folger was in love with him and supplied him with money for his drug habit.

The exact nature of Frokowsky’s involvement with drug distributors was not known but the informant claimed it was that which led to the mass murders.

Garretson, the only person found alive on the estate, said he heard nothing in his guest cottage the night of the slayings although he became concerned about dawn when he found the telephone in his cottage dead. Phone lines to the estate were ripped out.

He said Parent had come to visit him that night and had left about 12:15 a.m. Parent found shot to death in his car parked in the estate’s driveway, and it was believed he was killed because he stumbled upon something as he was leaving.

The bodies of Miss Folger and of Frokowsky were found on the lawn of the estate, while Sebring and Miss Tate, who was eight months pregnant, hoods over their head and a rope attached to their necks.
