Two Suspects Questioned In Star’s Death

NEW YORK, Sept. 6 — Two Californians arrested here on arms and drug charges also are being investigated as possible suspects in the killing of actress Sharon Tate and four others in Bel Air, Calif., last month.

Police said the two men, Daniel W. Weatherly of Chico, Calif., and Dennis D. Harford of Oroville, Calif., both 24, had three loaded guns, 100 pounds of marijuana and $4,000 in their possession when they were arrested on a Brooklyn street Friday.

“Los Angeles has asked us to run a ballistics check on the three guns (a .25 caliber automatic, a .38 caliber revolver and a .22 caliber revolver) and they are sending men here to question the prisoners,” police sources said.

Although the home towns of the two men are in North-Central California, both had recently been reported in Los Angeles.

Miss Tate was killed with a knife, but the other four victims in the case—hair stylist Jay Sebring, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, Voityck Frokowsky and Stephen Parents—all were shot. Police never have announced the caliber of the gun used in the killings.

Chief Asst. Brooklyn Dist. Atty. Elliott Golden said Weatherly and Hartford arrived from California about a week ago and rented a car at Kennedy Airport. The two men were in the car when they were arrested by two detectives from the Safe and Loft Squad.

Police said both men were armed, Weatherly carrying one gun and Harford the other two. They said 68 bricks of marijuana were found in suitcases in the rented car and $4,000 in cash wrapped in a plastic bag was under the front seat.

  1. Nicky says:

My impression was that Steven Parent and Jay Sebring were shot (by Tex Watson) – the other victims at 10050 Cielo Avenue died of stab wounds.

  2. Star Blazers says:

Voytek Frykowski was shot 2 times, Jay Sebring was shot 1 time, Steven Parent was shot 4 times. The women were not shot.

  3. Fayez Abedaziz says:

What the hey, I keep seeing articles from ’69 to now a days that just say this or that, that are untrue.
They even have articles and comments in this media or that saying things like:
Susan Atkins murdered Ms. Tate, or…
that Leslie along with…blah blah murdered the victims on Cielo Dr. and on and on.
Then they say that these were the worse murders in Calif. or American crime history!
a lotta nonsense all over. Then there is that movie- Once upon a time in hollyweird, you know? With violence that we’re supposed to be against. Susan and Leslie were not murderers. Leave ’em alone
